(((The new ODIN FET FUZZ PREAMP V2 is a completely different design from the V1)))

If there’s one thing I’m asked to build repeatedly, it’s a “matamp in a box”. While my usual response is to point them to the Ragnarok, what they want is a more affordable FET version.

That being said! The ODIN FUZZ PREAMP is a discreet component FET preamp based on the Blackhawk ODIN120 preamp HIGH GAIN input. (I emphasize ”high gain“ because this pedal was not designed as a clean preamp) The Odin high gain input is essentially tube fuzz, and this is that design using JFETs.

The V1 used opamps and a baxandall to roughly approximate the sound of the ODIN120. I liked it but I had a feeling if I started from scratch I could really nail it.
The V2 replicates the stages of the ODIN using individual JFETs (or discrete if you wanna be fancy about it).

It is a much more faithful recreation and about as close as any solid state pedal can get to “that sound”

Knobs are, gain and volume below and bass and treble for the baxandall tone stack above.

Run it into the front end of an clean amp without bright caps or the FX loop return of most amps.
