FAQ

•WHY ARE THERE NO PEDALS FOR SALE AT THE MOMENT?•

BLACKHAWK has switched formats from 9 years of everything being custom made to order "preorder" to the format of “DROPS” of pre-built pedals, amplifiers, preamps and modified amplifiers.
BEFORE A DROP HAPPENS A PRODUCT WILL APPEAR AS "COMING SOON" AND BECOME "ACTIVE" WHEN THE DROP IS LIVE.

•WHERE CAN I SEE/HEAR AMPLIFIERS, PREAMPLIFIERS AND PEDALS?•

@blackhawkamps

All shop demos are uploaded directly to instagram reels
(or in the case of older posts, 60 second videos).
The 90 second time of a reel is perfect for showcasing riffs, tones and knob twiddling with no boring talking to sit through.

•WHAT DO THE KNOBS MEAN? DO I NEED TO "SPEAK RUNE"?•

No, luckily it is is far more straightforward:
UNIVERSAL CONTROL TRANSLATOR FOR BLACKHAWK PEDALS/AMPLIFIERS:
•🔱=gain
•V=volume
•T=treble
•M=midrange
•B=bass
•C=clean
•O=octave
•D=depth
•F=frequency
•W=width
•X=gate/bias
•///="FAC"
(six position switch, similar to the OR120)

MOD AND DELAY PEDALS:
R=rate
D=depth
W=wave
T=time
F=feedback
C=clean

•WILL YOU MODIFY MY AMPLIFIER?•

The short answer is:
If you intend to ship the amp both ways, probably not...
however:

If you can drop off and pick up in person (you live within driving distance of Portland, OR) and your amp fits the list of vintage tube amps I work on, YES.

The long answer is:
I do overhauls and mods to the following WORKING (((TUBE))) AMPLIFIERS:

  • SOVTEK: MIG 100 and MIG 50 MKII
  • PEAVEY: VTM / Butcher / Ultra / Triumph / 5150 / 6505
  • LANEY: GHL GH-TI / VH100R / Pro-Tube / AOR / KLIPP / SUPERGROUP
  • SUNN: 100s / 200s / 1000s / 2000s / 1200s (vintage tube version) / all the 60's-70's tube models based on the 100s and 200s called "sceptre" and "sonaro" (there are a bunch)
  • MARSHALL: JMP / JTM / 800 / SLX
  • ORANGE: rockerverbs / TH / OR100 / DARK / JRT (NOT micro terror)
  • AMPEG VL SERIES (designed by Lee Jackson) V3, V5
  • TRAYNOR: YBA (all versions)
  • JET CITY (All models except picovalve)
  • FENDER: bassman / deluxe / (135 ultralinear models can be converted to "MODEL TYR" specs)
Mods and refurbishing are $75 AN HOUR plus parts purchased using my builder's OEM pricing
(and that savings is passed on to you)

Price will go up if diagnostic reveals issues.
If diagnostic reveals issues that become a full repair, I reserve the right to pass on the repair to a local repair technician.
If I chose to move forward because it will be simple/quick, this is done at $150 AN HOUR
(unfortunately I do not have the time/bandwidth to repair things)

•CAN USE (THIS) PEDAL WITH BASS?•

All BLACKHAWK circuits designed around baritone tunings and humbuckers.
(Mainly B and A tunings)

This has the added benefit that they are equally suited for anything from standard tuning to drop tuned bass.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////

•WHAT ABOUT SINGLE COIL PICKUPS AND STANDARD TUNING?•

Single coil users will find that they get a thickness from most BLACKHAWK designs they have yet to find elsewhere.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////

•DO I HAVE TO USE (THIS) FUZZ FIRST IN MY PEDAL CHAIN?•

All BLACKHAWK fuzz pedals are "impedance matched" and can be placed anywhere you want in your guitar chain.
Many BLACKHAWK fuzzes include a completely transparent impedance correction transformer.
This allows you to never have to worry about buffers or active pickups getting in the way of your tone.

•WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MKI AND MKII PEDALS?•

The new MKII versions include the new "clickless true bypass" (or "soft touch") switch which uses a clickless momentary switch to trigger a relay as opposed to the standard mechanical method.
The MKII will be a hybrid of SMD resistors/diodes/basic semiconductors but with the important parts (audio film caps, rarer or more sensitive discrete transistors and ICs) still being through hole.
The pedals themselves will still be handwired, only now they can be done much faster. This means shorter wait times and and the cost savings will go on to you in the form of not having to raise prices and in some cases, lower them!
