PI π FUZZ: TRIANGLE (60s)

I’m not usually big on doing direct "clones" or pedals that are commonly cloned but with how well the green Russian PI fuzz turned out I thought “why not make the other versions?”
While we're at it, what if the had the mids available to change the minds of the many guitarists who feel like they just disappear in a mix when they kick on a BM fuzz? Basically, a version for both BM PI π FUZZ collectors AND those who wrote them off long ago.
THE TRIANGLE is known for its crunchy, articulate fuzz that can achieve those killer transistor distortion sounds and at lower gain levels it cleans up amazingly well with your guitar volume knob.
It can go from killer classic rock tones to brutal high gain distortion and isn't your typical BM fuzz.
For the TRIANGLE I went with a combination of 2N2222 and 2N3904 transistors. This achieves even better gain and texture than the reissue 2N5133 I had previously used which are no longer available.
With every version, the best transistor is carefully selected and measured for the best "HFE" (or gain) for each stage and tone for that circuit. Whenever possible the original transistors will be used but if there is a better alternative, thats what will be used.
All the important things are as exact as possible, the proper emitter and collector values, diodes that are as close to the original as possible including the period authentic ceramic caps.
I compared one built with all ceramic with one built with the film and silver mica caps I normally used and the ceramic actually sounded more authentic!
The major change is adding a mid boost/scoop control. so not only can you achieve flat/unity mids, you can even boost mids above unity
I’ll be doing the TRIANGLE PI π FUZZ in clear coated aluminum that has been carved and the graphics blackened with three knob options:
•Davies 1500 "stove"
•Aluminum "hi-fi" knobs or
•"Big Boss" knobs.
The first two knob options are as close to the two original styles as I could find and the third is just classic BLACKHAWK style
